Thanksgiving is partly about gratitude, and us pawrents are grateful every day for our four-legged family members.
This year, treat your pup to a dog-friendly Thanksgiving dinner made with ingredients that are safe for them. From sweet potato mash to mini pumpkin pies and plain turkey bites, this Sit Pretty Pup guide will help you serve up a feast your for which your dog will be thankful, minus the unsafe stuff in people’s Thanksgiving dishes, like garlic, butter, and nutmeg.
Make sure everything you use to prepare your dog’s Thanksgiving dinner is extremely clean or specifically just for dog food preparation to prevent your dog from having anything he or she shouldn’t, such as onion powder.
🍠 Pawsitiviely Delicious Sweet Potato Mash
Ingredients:
1 small sweet potato, peeled and cubed
1 tbsp plain, unsweetened yogurt (optional for creaminess - We like nonfat, plain Chobani Greek Yogurt due to its limited ingredients.
Optional: sprinkling of turmeric
Instructions:
Boil or steam the sweet potato until soft (about 10–15 minutes).
Mash with a fork. Do NOT add butter, salt, or seasoning.
Stir in plain yogurt, if desired.
Optional: Sprinkle a small amount of tumeric as a topping or mixed in for joint and immune support.
Why it’s great: Full of fiber and vitamins A and C but sweet enough that your dog will think this is a treat. The yogurt also adds protein, calcium and probiotics that help with digestion.
🍗 Pupperific Turkey Bites

3–4 oz plain cooked turkey breast (no skin, bones, or seasoning)
Option: Dog-safe bone broth, such as by Open Farm or Stella & Chewy's

½ cup crushed dog biscuits (for crust) - We like Three Dog Bakery Lick’n Crunch Golden Vanilla and Vanilla Sandwich Cookies for this. They’re easy to crush and complement the pumpkin.
Optional: 1 tsp of ground flax seed for omega-3 fatty acids and fiber for heart and coat health
Instructions:
Mix crushed biscuits with a splash of water to form a crust. Add more water, as needed.
Press into silicone molds, mini pie pan, or mini muffin tins.
Combine pumpkin and yogurt, then spoon into crusts.
Chill for 1 hour or bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
Cool completely before serving.
Why it’s great: Pumpkin is gentle on digestion.
🐾 Pawsome Cranberry Sauce
Ingredients:
¼ cup fresh or frozen cranberries
1 tbsp water
1 tsp unsweetened applesauce with no added ingredients (optional for sweetness) - Green Coast makes applesauce specifically for dogs that our dogs love.
Instructions:
Combine cranberries and water in a stove-safe pot.
Simmer cranberries and water over low heat for 5–7 minutes.
Mash into a sauce, and let cool.
Why it’s great: Cranberries are high in antioxidants. Just serve sparingly! Too much cranberry sauce can cause tummy upset due to cranberries’ acidity.
